Growing Your Little One’s Faith: The Beginner’s Bible review {giveaway}

He sat Indian-style next to the Christmas tree and called his younger brothers to him. “C’mere, babies! I’ve got a story for you!” They’re always good for a story so they snuggled up next to him, not much smaller than him, and squeezed around the book he held.

I sat back on the sofa and waited to see what would happen. He’s a late reader and I wasn’t sure he knew all the words. He pointed out the brightly colored pictures to them and shared a well-known Bible story. And another one. And another one.

They listened while he described the terror of the disciples as the wind and waves shook the boat. His voice grew when he repeated the words of Jesus asking them why they were afraid and where was their faith? Softly, he said the storm calmed when Jesus told it to stop.

He flipped back to a different story, one about the same man but this time he’d just been born. Jesus, who came to save our sins, but didn’t stay a baby. He grew up. He saved the world. And He can save you.

The precious words made me tear up. All this from a kid I’m sure never listens to me but his stories proved otherwise. This boy listens and hides these stories in his heart and when he can’t read every page word for word, the pictures and his storytelling bring it to life.

How true his words were! Especially at this time of year, these same little boys see baby Jesus in the manger and it’s easy to think he stayed a baby. But he didn’t. Like my son shared with his younger brothers, Jesus grew up. He had a job to do but it wasn’t instant. God had to prepare him.

He has to prepare us too. God has a wonderful plan for us but it isn’t something developed overnight. It takes time and growth, from our maturity to our spirituality.

How do you grow your little one’s faith?

Jesus in Our Home

One of my biggest prayers is for the salvation of my children. Not the safety net kind of prayer, but the life-altering prayer inviting Him in to completely transform their life.

I know bringing my kids up in the Lord must be proactive and intentional. That’s why we purchase age-appropriate Bibles for them. As babies and toddlers and preschoolers, we choose The Beginner’s Bible. As they grow, we replace it (usually because they’ve worn it out!) with an older storybook Bible, still with pictures. And then as older elementary kids, they receive what they call “real” Bibles.

Introducing them to Jesus is our greatest privilege that we never take for granted. We want to give them the best tools to show who Jesus is and what He did for them.

Along with praise music and imitating us–their parents–a good Bible is integral to building a firm foundation of faith.

That’s why we like The Beginner’s Bible.

The Beginner’s Bible: My Review

Twelve years ago we received this Bible as a gift and six kids later, we’ve purchased multiple copies because it’s that good!

For babies and toddlers, the colorful pictures captivate them and hold their attention.

Preschoolers and early readers will enjoy the short paragraphs which make reading along with us easy to follow along.

For their older siblings, they have a wonderful opportunity to be the teachers and read it aloud or simply sit back and listen and correct when necessary.

Each story is easily marked by a title and Scripture reference making marking your spot easy to do!

Another plus is the dictionary in the back clarifying any new or unknown words to your young children.

Finding a great storybook Bible is a precious way to introduce your child to the Lord. From color to content, The Beginner’s Bible is perfect for feeding a child’s faith.
