I wanted to yell at them, “ARE YOU KIDDING ME???” Then I remembered, they’re only one and they are precious gifts from God. So I forced out a chuckle as I scooped the twins off of the counter and safely onto the ground before I began wiping up the spilled milk, water bottle, bits of cereal and one of the girls’ schoolbooks which was now sopping wet. I don’t normally get upset about spills (oh don’t get me wrong! I used to before I realized by shouting at my kids to clean up their accidental spills, I was really conveying to them that a clean house was more important than they were and that was NOT the message I wanted to get across!) but when they purposefully dump out freshly poured glasses of milk because it’s fun to stomp in it ON the counter….well, my old flesh creeps up and I have to stuff it back down!
I enjoy a nice clean home but when that becomes my focus, I know the Lord is displeased.
Here are a few things we do at our home to set the stage for a peaceful day, a day filled with love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness and faith:
- Begin the morning in prayer and the Bible. My daughters have recently begun waking up early with me and we study the Bible together and pray. We love to sing (but we aren’t very good at it!) and we include a time of praise and worship. Our porch swing has become a sanctuary and it’s my favorite time of the day with my girls!
- Play praise and worship music throughout the day in your home. I find that I have a completely different attitude when I have a heart of worship all day long. In the morning, I love p&w, while later in the morning or late afternoon, we enjoy faster paced upbeat Christian songs. The kids love dance parties with the faster music!☺️
- Diffuse Stress Away! Last Christmas, Hubs surprised me with a diffuser and essential oil kit. I have found that I LOVE diffusing Young Living Stress Away all day long, every day!
- Wind down your day with a sweet time of stories, devotions, and prayer with your family. This is my absolute favorite time of day with my entire family! After dinner and baths, we all pile into one of the kid’s rooms and read for an hour. We read everything from stories of missionaries to the Bible to world history to poetry. After reading, we discuss what we read or talk about our day. We always end in prayer, sometimes just Hubs or I praying, but mostly taking turns praying around the room.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend with your family! Spend a little extra time loving on your spouse and your precious gifts from God.
Until next time,
The Farm Wyfe
