In Real Life: Living with the Wells

One question I’m often asked is, ‘What is your favorite age?’ My answer? Twenty-nine. Just kidding, I don’t even remember anything specific from that year. Oh wait–yes, that was the year we conceived twins. I’ll have to pick another year later. But seriously, as far as kids ages, with all of my kids, I have absolutely loved the ones and twos. It’s that time when they’re just walking and naturally curious yet they still listen to you. They love laughing and life is just so fun with them.

(Don’t remind me of the bad times. I’m only remembering the very best of times!)

I’m rethinking my favorite age though. The twins are five now and absolutely hilarious. Embarrassingly hilarious though, especially when we’re in public.

It all started on October 30th. We self-imposed a rule to spend the smallest amount of money possible for Fall Festival costumes each year. (This year we averaged $3.75/person.)

So we’re rushing into a store last minute for ONE thing to complete a costume and I have the girls and a twin with me. The blame lies with me for racing past the lingerie department with a boy but he came to a dead stop in the aisle. I tugged him along but he didn’t move. All of a sudden, he bent over, resting his hands on his knees and laughing hysterically.

We had no clue what was so funny until he pointed to the nearest rack of bras, shouting, “MAMA! Look at those boobies!” The girls were mortified and shushed him. Lucky for me, he’s still small, so I snatched him up and carted him away but not before the entire store heard us.

It’s a boy thing. I know it is. I distinctly remember my brother doing the same thing to my mom when we were kids and I laughed at him then. Paybacks.

The worst part came a couple days later when my daughter cornered me, reminding me of the incident and admonishing, “Mama, you really should teach him not to say that word.” The b-word. Boobies.

Don’t correct my parenting, kid. Lol!

Until we master holding our tongues, we’ll be avoiding those areas of department stores though! 🤣

EVERYDAY LIVING WITH SIX KIDS, A FARMER, AND ME

People always ask what life is really like around our home. They imagine crazy kids hanging from curtains, notebooks sailing through the air as we homeschool, noise all the time, and no one sitting together for meals.

Well, none of that’s true.

In the past, the twins did climb up the curtains once but mama stopped that. Books are treasures around here and we definitely don’t throw them through the air. It is kind of noisy when everyone’s awake but right after lunch, we have 2+ hours of quiet time/nap time depending on how mama feels. And we eat every meal together around the dining room table. It’s our chance to talk (I know– like we don’t do enough of that throughout the day) without being rushed.

Through this new series, In Real Life (IRL), I hope to give you an up-close and personal glimpse into our everyday life. Everything from meals to homeschooling to traveling to baking. And if there’s something else you’d love to read, comment below or send me a message on Facebook where I hang out the most.

PRAYING WITH THE WELLS

Another of our favorite activities is prayer. It’s actually something the kids fight over (I know, right?) but we keep an ongoing prayer list that we pray through multiple times a day. Some of you are on it. If you requested prayer, we cover you in it. Of course, very personal requests stay with me, but I share public requests with the kids.  They love watching God work, even if it’s in ways we don’t expect. So share those needs and we’ll be happy to pray for you.

As for us, prayer to see people the way God sees them is always needed. One area of conviction is failing to notice others around us and meet their physical needs. Following that is introducing them to Jesus or reminding them of His great love. What great hope we have in Him that we can minister to others and share Jesus with them.
