Georgia Peach Cobbler

Several years ago, my parents surprised us with an anniversary trip to the cutest bed and breakfast in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We had never spent the night at a B&B before and we had a blast! As soon as we checked in and sprinted up the stairs, the owners called after us, “Why don’t you let us upgrade you to the big room free of charge in celebration of your anniversary?”

Hello? We didn’t need to think twice about that and they ushered us into a huge room with a cute wrought iron table for two tucked away in the corner, a couch with a beautiful view out the window over the mountains, a large jacuzzi tub, and an inviting four-poster king bed.

Before we closed the door, they reminded us, “Don’t forget about the bottomless cookie jar!” I’m not even kidding, we were like kids in a candy shop. Every chance we got that weekend, we were “sneaking” a cookie out of that huge jar!

Before we checked out our last morning, the owners served us an amazing breakfast of homemade peach cobbler with fresh Georgia peaches, egg frittata, fresh squeezed orange juice, and quite honestly, I can’t remember what else! It was delicious though and Mary Jo, the owner, was kind enough to share her peach cobbler recipe with me.

I just so happened to have 2 canned pints of Georgia peaches in the pantry today and thought I would pass along the recipe as I make it. Forgive me the imperfect pictures but I’m hoping one of my readers will offer to give me foodie picture-taking lessons in exchange for being fed!

Aska Lodge Geogia Peach Cobbler

Ingredients:

2/3 cup sugar

1 cup self rising flour

1 tsp cinnamon

2/3 cup milk

1 stick butter

3+ cups ripe, sliced peaches, sugared for juice (I skip this part)

Directions:

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Melt 1 stick of butter in 9×13 baking dish.

Mix first 4 ingredients of batter together and set aside.

Pour batter over melted butter. Layer peaches over batter. Bake for 45 minutes. Serve warm with whipped cream.

Enjoy!

Oh, and I don’t serve this to my family for breakfast like we had at the B&B but we rather enjoy it for dessert!

Until next time,

The Farm Wyfe
