We went to an air show this weekend. The kids had a blast watching the planes take off right next to us.
We watched them land too but the most exciting part was the Take-off.
A plane trip is kind of like life really. The takeoff is the most exciting part and several things along the way. The jumpers. The tricks.
It mirrors the milestones and achievements we reach throughout our life. We hear the cheers and excitement and it spurs us on to the next big thing.
We don’t pay much attention to what sustains the plane. The fuel. The flight plan. The following of instructions.
Those are the everyday things, the mundane. Kind of like our routine, the things that happen every single day in our life that most people don’t pay attention to. Laundry. Cooking. Dishes. Keeping the kids alive. It’s our life.
But more important than the obvious rote chores is our spiritual life. The day to day relationship with Jesus when it’s just a one-on-one drawing near, filling up the fuel kind of stuff. Reading the flight plan or our Bible and not just hearing what it says, but doing it. Following Jesus.
Today, there was so much air traffic. I could hardly believe no one crashed. But the thing is, the pilots blocked out the noise, the rushing of the wind from their environment, the shouts of the crowd, and tuned into the air traffic controller.
They listened. And followed his instructions.
The pilot couldn’t see the crowd. He could only see partially in front of him so he trusted that voice to lead him safely forward. To navigate through the crowd to take-off.
He could only hear that sole voice. He heard it because he focused on it.
That’s what happens when we block out all those voices that influence us on a daily basis and tune into Jesus. We’re able to focus on the most important things and follow the flight plan.
Friend, if I could encourage you to do only one thing today, it would be to focus on Jesus. Block out the noise of the crowd.
Follow Him. Trust Him. He’s got this. 👍🏻
