The Timehop app used to freak me out especially when pictures would come up that I know I didn’t post to social media, like shots of me tandem breastfeeding the twins. But now I love it because I’ve posted so many funny things my kids say or do on social media but I forget to write them down so when Timehop reminds me, I’m glad I get a second chance to record those memories and remember they didn’t always have such smart mouths.
This morning on timehop, I saw pictures of a wedding shower we gave for a family member a few years ago. I love parties. I mean, I love planning parties and other events. I might even call myself a party planner if it weren’t for my sister-in-law who actually is a party planner in real life.
So when my mother-in-law offered to host this bridal shower, I was all over that like white on rice (an old history teacher of mine used to saw that all the time and it never failed to crack me up!). We were expecting the bride-to-be and her man to come and since he is also a farmer, we wanted to give it a good masculine appeal.
The shower was called a Honey-Do Shower and everyone blessed them with all things masculine–weed eater, grill, shop vac, etc. You get the picture. You ladies know once the knot is tied, there is a never ending “honey-do” list for him and bless their hearts, we wanted to set them up and equip them for a happy marriage from the start.
We had a blast decorating and planning the menu! My mother in law had the great idea to make huge silk flower bouquets in red galvanized tin buckets with tools taped to floral sticks. In between the beautiful flowers were gardening gloves, hammers, screwdrivers, garden seeds, and gardening tools. If you look close at some of the outdoor pics, you might be able to see them!
We hung a burlap pennant sign my sister in law made over the food table that read, “She Said Yes.” Since we went with the outdoor honey-do theme, we focused on an outdoor menu with a huge salad bar (next time they can grow their own with the vegetable seeds and gardening tools! Lol) and a baked potato bar (because the groom to be is a potato farmer!).
Making soaps are a hobby of mine so we cut handmade soap into sample sizes, tied them 3 to a stack with raffia and attached a little note that said, “From our shower to yours.”
Cake!!! Strawberry cake with cream cheese icing, a basic yellow cake with chocolate icing, and a double chocolate cake with garden fresh strawberries completed the desserts.
One last pennant banner read, “Love Story” with pictures from their first date to the engagement hung between each letter.
Gift time! I promise she wasn’t upset with him! I think they were trying to decide who would open all the honey-do gifts, him or her?
See the gardening gloves and tools in this bouquet? So cute! My mother in law did a great job on those!
And a hammer on that one over yonder!
We set up corn hole for the men but this littlest man insisted on crawling on the boards!
I’m pleased to say this couple just welcomed their first baby to the family and they are doing well! Isn’t he adorable?
Until next time,
The Farm Wyfe
