Getting dirty was never my thing but then I married a farmer and dirt is quite literally our whole life now. It’s something our four boys appreciate and the girls accept as their lifestyle. From the beginning, I embraced all things farming (as long as I could wash the dirt off pretty quickly afterward) even snatching up a license plate with Farm Wyfe spelled across it.
Something about the farming lifestyle, the close knit family, working day in and day out with your people to grow and harvest a quality crop attracted me and I soaked it up. I loved the farm life.
Fourteen years later, I’m still loving it and appreciating every farm family I have the privilege of meeting. We have kindred spirits, each of us understanding without saying the hard work and sweat we pour into our fields. We take pride in the land and our family, hoping to instill the same passion for our family leaving behind a farming legacy.
Red Land Cotton: From Farm to Home
The Yeager family, third-generation cotton farmers in north Alabama have spent the past 35+ years honing their skills to create a high quality crop. Their harvest doesn’t end in the field though. Mark Yeager, owner and operator, designed and built his own cotton gin in 1994 in order to control the quality of their cotton.
Unfortunately, like most farmers, he was barely scraping by. Years passed and he began thinking outside the box and approached his daughter, Anna Brakefield, about teaming up for a new opportunity. Together, with his wife, two sons, and daughter, the Yeager family took advantage of the textile’s industry history to create a product born in the South. Bed linens.
This impresses me to no end because when a farmer has the vision, ambition, and engineering skill to design his own equipment to suit his own farming needs, it takes farming to a new level. And that’s exactly what the Yeager family did, creating a high quality cotton and using local resources to manufacture their raw product into a history-rich, heirloom linens, inspired by their ancestors.
A bed sheet passed down through the family from the 1920’s led the Yeager family down the path of reverse engineering the sheet’s weaving and thread count to recreate a modern version of the timeless treasure.
With a whole lot of help from the family, the Yeagers opened Red Land Cotton, an online shop as well as a storefront in Moulton, Alabama. Not only do they sell beautiful 100% Alabama grown cotton heirloom sheets but they’ve also incorporated their Leighton Bath line of luxurious towels.
If you’re quick to their online shop, you might also be able to snag the cutest tea towels or aprons for Christmas hostess gifts. All of their products are created straight from the cotton in their fields and manufactured in the southeast United States–100% made in the USA.
WHAT ONE FARMING FAMILY IS SAYING ABOUT RED LAND COTTON
I’ll admit – I’m a frugal mama and while I love supporting fellow farm families, I wasn’t crazy about the cost so I did what all women do. I polled my friends. How much would you pay for a set of sheets, I asked them. The answers varied but most of them admitted they pay top dollar for high quality bedding.
It must be the cotton.
Anna Brakefield sent me a set of sheets which I immediately made my bed with and slept on that night. My farmer works outside in the Florida heat all day long and has a hard time cooling down in the evenings. He wanted a set of sheets that felt comfortable to him, kept his body cool, and also felt great to my sensitive skin. But after trying endless sheets, nothing measured up to both of us.
Except Red Land Cotton sheets.
Not only are they gorgeous sheets, they’re thick yet cool, 100% cotton, and made from start to finish in the United States. Now there’s a business I can stand behind!
After the first night of sleeping on them, my farmer declared them the best sheets he’s ever slept on. I think he sleeps better too knowing if the Yeager family is anything like the Wells family, the hard work they pour into their business is worth supporting. They’ve got an excellent product and the most beautiful cotton.
They are legit. With both hands waving in the air, I highly recommend Red Land Cotton bedding.
