Several people have told me lately they didn’t realize we had a farm (FYI: Hubs is a third generation farmer, so yeah, he’s been farming a while) so I am here to remedy that! About two years ago we began expanding and experimenting with various crops and raising grass-fed animals and every few months we diversify a little more. If you’re looking for local grassfed meats, fruit, vegetables, fresh eggs, and even flowers all at the same place, you’ve come to the right place! We are happy to supply all your food needs at Wesley Wells Farms.
Whew, with the sales blurb out of the way, now we can have fun!
We have been up to our ears in peanuts the past couple weeks during this crazy peanut harvest. The kids get in the action too, riding in the tractor with their daddy, picking peanuts, hauling picked peanuts to be washed and then laying them out in front of the dryer. They even set up a boiled peanut stand at the farm last week! It was so cute but unfortunately, I didn’t capture it on camera.
This little man decided he would help himself to some water instead of washing the peanuts! Isn’t he just adorable?
In the midst of farm work, we are still going strong homeschooling, at least until a certain twin decides the table on top of our schoolwork makes a nice resting spot.
Our gladiolus are blooming and they are beautiful!
We lost most of our laying hens in a terrible storm and small tornado during the summer and we recently restocked our laying hens. It’s so nice to have fresh eggs again!
Cows. They always keep things interesting. We moved them from one pasture to another when Rosie decided to help herself to a corn-filled drum. I promise, this is not photoshopped!
And our newest family member, Grace. She was separated from her mama a couple weeks ago and we have been bottle feeding her. She was so weak at first, she didn’t even get up but now she jams her head in my side until we give her a bottle. She’s sweet and the kids love her. They think they’re going to put a harness on her and lead her around the yard like a dog. Ha! I don’t know how she will feel about that!
So that’s a glimpse of our crazy busy farm life lately! If you’ve been waiting for news about our next Farm Family Fun Day, we are working on it, I promise! Because of all the rain we’ve had, everything is pretty much flooded but as soon as it dries out, we will be posting event info on the farm Facebook page. And if you’re near a calendar, save this date–November 15!
We are thrilled to be part of the Tour de Farm this year and on November 15, we will have tons of produce, pumpkins, fresh eggs, grassfed chickens, Thanksgiving TURKEYS, handmade soaps, awesome rustic wood signs and decor made from recycled farm wood and more! Your family will have a blast playing our farm games, learning where food comes from, food tasting, hay rides and much more. We are so excited and hope to see you there!
Until next time,
The Farm Wyfe
HA! I love the picture of the cow!! You should totally do a post on how you homeschool and don’t lose your mind too! 😉
Thanks!
When I figure that out, I will! 😉
